A side helping of mercy? I don't think so.

2008| Meet the Pyro

"Endurance test to fire-fest."

date: January 1, 2008

Not bad. The introduction is a little long-winded and I mainly got the idea that the Pyro should stay masked, but it was worth it once the action got started. Great use of the class dialogue.

Dad's at Work

"Comic, artistic genius."

submission: Dad's at Work
date: August 3, 2007

Pure insanity doesn't get any better than this. The sketchy feel can be overlooked or even integrated as how this strange, whimsical piece works and only because the situations and actions of Dad are so bloody mad.

I can't wait for Overtime.

GeoWars

"An alright Geometry Wars knock-off."

submission: GeoWars
date: August 3, 2007

Being nostalgic for the days before Microsoft put their foot down regarding Grid Wars, I liked this game. It's nothing incredible though; by today's high front page standards, the graphics are just a bit outdated. Nor the visuals and audio come close to the fantastic light display of its XBox 360 equivalent (or its PC version).

Aside from its aesthetic weaknesses, I can see why its been labeled as a clone with a few differences, these deviations from the original game being why I enjoyed it for awhile. The enemies are a good mix of original Geometry Wars drones and snakes with some more interesting twists. On power-ups, I didn't see the point of merely making the player's shots more accurate. As technically, each enemy is vanquished with a single shot (with others consisting of multiple segments), surely spread fire would have worked better?

Wreck The Halls

"Too fast, rendered dozens of time over."

submission: Wreck The Halls
date: January 1, 2008

This reminded me of the covers done on tracks for the new Scooby Doo. Not necessarily a good thing as I don't think I'd put it on my MP3 player. At times, this song tripped over itself.

There is no such thing as 'too fast'.

Trippicrunched Christmas

"Wonderful."

date: January 1, 2008

It's probably inspired by plenty of other 8-bit games, but this felt reminiscent of the game Cave Story to start with - not to mention that this is longer than most of that game's songs. Then I got to recognising the festive parts, which worked spectacularly, particularly with the Game Boy-esque sound effects. Well done.

Thanks! Christmas = festive, that's for sure :D

-Cave Story eh? I might have to check that out, coolio.
